Adjust for Returned Items

Returned Items Function

Let's say Joe Shmoe’s department, Operations, erroneously ordered and was shipped 5000 units of Cash Tickets.  When Joe receives boxes and boxes of Cash Tickets, he realizes he made a typo and only meant to order 500. So Joe returns the extra 4500 units to you.

How do you "return" the excess items to stock and credit back Joe's department?

Don't fret! We've designed a foolproof method to handle returned items.

u Call up the supply item being returned. Below, we see Cash Tickets with 5000 units on hand.

v Click the Returned Items button  (above).

w The blue Returned Items form appears over the Log In Grid.(right)

Just enter the returned units of 4500 at the average price* of $.05 and the returning department, Operations.

*Use the current Average Cost (.05) for returned units price unless you know the cost when logged out initially.

Now, check out the adjustment transaction added to the pink Log Out grid, (center, left).

Notice that the transaction "credits back" 4500 units to  Operations at a unit cost of $.05.

The code "oR" stands for "log out returned."

Note: If a department wants to "swap" one supply item for another, you should treat this as two separate transactions: a Returned Item and a new log out.
